The technology developed allowed us to identify the most suitable solutions to the problems encountered while work was in progress, which can be summarized as follows:
| PROBLEM | SOLUTION |
| Prevent interruption to the water flow even when the plant is not working efficiently and protect the aqueduct's primary role. Avoid dangerously high pressure levels in the pipelines resulting from the plants being out of order. | Use of a rapid automatic bypass that very quickly (eight seconds) switches the flow from the turbine to the existing pressure reduction valve. |
| Avoid extended operation of machinery at speeds close to escape velocity. | The turbines inbuilt characteristics reduce the flow utilized in response to the greater speeds reached approaching escape velocity. |
| Avoid any possibility of pollution to the potable water or modification of its organoleptic properties by preventing contact with lubricated components or pollutants. | Installation of turbines where no lubricated components are in contact with the water and the use of materials that do not contain pollutants (stainless steel for the distributor, runner and shaft sleeve, and cast iron for the turbine housing). |
| Use only excess pressure, returning the water with the right back-pressure required to comfortably reach the supply points without the need for potentially expensive interventions to raise the water. | Installation of Francis reaction turbines, which allow the water to be returned with back-pressure and avoid the possibility of any type of foreign matter entering, thus also ensuring hygienic conditions. |
| Regulate the operation of the hydroelectric plants, positioned in series on the same pipeline, in order to avoid different flows between one tract and another with consequent repercussions on the effective delivery of the primary service. | Installation of a remote control system that, at regular intervals, automatically checks the plants' operational conditions. Readings are monitored using sensors, and the remote control system's software supplies the most appropriate commands and corrections to ensure that the limits set are respected. |
