History

Hydrowatt S.p.A. was founded on 25 February 1986 as a joint venture between SIME S.p.A. and the Intermunicipal Water Authority of Piceno (CIIP - Consorzio Idrico Intercomunale del Piceno).
SIME S.p.A. had worked in the electricity sector for more than 65 years, designing and installing electromechanical equipment.
CIIP was the owner and operator of the Sibillini Mountains aqueduct in the province of Ascoli Piceno.
In the early 1990s, Hydrowatt installed five first generation hydroelectric plants on CIIP's potable water pipelines and one on a free-flowing water drainage canal.
In 1995 Hydrowatt acquired a plant engineering section, and thus began to offer the installation, construction, and operation of electromechanical plants for public and private clients.
In November 1999, the majority of shares in Hydrowatt were bought by the Gruppo Andreoli Bonazzi. The new owner focussed on research and development, investing in a team of highly specialist technicians. Within a few years, this strategy promoted the development of the latest generation technology. Strengthened by this innovation, the company launched an important growth programme with upgrading of the old plants and the construction of new ones.
In February 2002 Hydrowatt acquired the majority of shares in the twin company Hydrowatt Abruzzo, owner at the time of two hydroelectric plants positioned on the potable water pipelines of Azienda Consortile Acquedottistica SpA , operator of the integrated water services for the province of Pescara.
